Ibiza: The magic Island
The thirdbiggest Island of the Balearic islands has a very special appeal. The sea seems more bluer, the beaches more white and the nightlife a bit more challenging.
Ibiza is very popular because its capital Eivissa. Since years the city is “The HOTSPOT” in the mediterranean sea. Discos and bars are changed into a legendary Partyplace by international DJ´s.
Besides the latest Parties there is a different Ibiza: a hilly island, full of untouched nature, cosy places and a coast with lots of different beaches (official maps say there are more than 50 beaches).
The Mediterranean sea glows in different blue colours and makes you wonder about it even in winter with 15 degrees watertemperature. Ibiza is the island with the most balanced climate of the Balearic islands. In the summer the temperature has a average of 26 degrees in the winter thre are still mild 12 degrees. The low season is a secret tip. Only in this time you can have the beaches on your own and no sunshade will obstruct your view to the beautiful bays.
Besides the big touristcentres (Eivissa, San Antonio und Santa Eularia) the island is sparsely populated. Lonesome fincas and small villages affect the landscape.
But even in the touristcentres you will find no bed bunkers. The building development is under very strong surveillance, since tourists discover the island in the 70´s. Today the whole island is dependent on the tourism: approximately 1,8 Million English, german, Italian and French people visit Ibiza every year.
The Streets are very well maintained. The typical Spanish, bumby roads can only be found in the hilly back country. The airport and the capital of the island Eivissa are even connected by a highway.
Ibiza got its name “island of the rich and the beauty” mainly from the yacht habours. Nearly every bigger village has a picturesque habour and some anchorage places offshore.
Santa Eularia offers elegant shopping opportunities for a ambitious public, and a luxurious yacht habour. Furthermore is the city considered to be the cultural centre because of its many galleries. Next to the shops of the big labels, there are lots of small shops from new blood designers, which are profitable to shop in. Here you will get the Spanish leather and veloursleather, which is famous for its softness. When you are next to the habour, try to get some information about the ferry which brings you to “Formentera, the little sister of Ibiza”. You can see Formentera from the habour, and it is worth a day excursion.
In St. Antonio, there is a defense-church from the 14th century and one of the most beautifullest natural habours from Europe, which is the centre of the city with its nice baywalk.
Es Canar and Portinax, which are in the east of the Island are very attractive, especially for families. A excursion with a rental car is especially interesting on Wednesday when the traditionell hippie market takes place. A lot of young people from the bigger cities stop over and make the market a well know place to be.
Far away from the techno base you will find the origin Ibiza. Lots of Trekking and Biking trails cross pineforrests, little hills and miracle bays. Luckily you don’t have to be afraid of dangerous animals, because on Ibiza there are no poisonous spiders or snakes. The multifaceted flora makes you wonder about lavender, wild herbs, bizarre looking cactus and the for the Iberian typical Fig trees. The old saltfeelds “Ses Salinas” which are invented in the middleage are a bird-conservation park today, but can still be visited.
A special trip to Cala Benirras, in the north of the island, should be planned for Sundays.
At sundown a couple of musicians show their drumming art. Befor darkness you should go out to take a trip snorkelling around the rocks which are just offshore. The underwaterworld is just fascinating there. Discover Ibiza with its lots of specialities and the stunning nature. Holidays cant be more relaxing.
