Car hire Rimini - city on the Adriatic

The city is famous for its extensive beaches that are not only busy in the summer but also in the evenings, however Rimini has more to offer than just bathing opportunities! The city has Roman roots and was founded in 268BC as the Roman Colony Ariminum.  Remnants from Roman times can also be found in the city such as the Ponte di Tiberio- the Tiberius Bridge that rests on 5 arches and connects the city centre with the fishing quarter of Borgo San Giuliano.  Here, in the pretty narrow streets there are many Trattoria where you can eat delicious fish dishes.

Indulge in some art and culture with the ease of car hire in Rimini

The City Museum is definitely worth a visit- the Museo della Città! You will find there are lots of galleries under one roof that display archeological art, art from the middle-ages as well as modern art.  There is also an Art Museum situated there.  The archeological department displays interesting objects from the Roman times such as mosaics, stone and bronze statues, jewellery, cutlery, everyday items as well as religious and mythological objects.  The “Room of Surgery“ is very interesting- after excavations took place in the near by Piazza Ferrari many pharmaceutical and surgical instruments were discovered such as tweezers, scalpels, scales, birth-forceps, pestle and mortars, measuring beakers and jars.  A true miniature Pompeii was discovered in the excavations that portrayed ancient Rimini.

The Art Museum displays paintings from the 11th to the 20th century with works from Bellini und Ghirlandaio.  In addition there are sculptures, jars, jugs, pitchers, tapestries, arms, cutlery, and ceramics from the Renaissance period as well as works by local artists.

Visit impressive sites with car hire

The Temple of Malatestiano near the cathedral is a true Renaissance Temple with a facade from the architect Leon Battista Alberti that was never fully completed.  Here, you will find altar coverings, liturgical objects, chalices, paintings as well as relics from the 14th and 15th century  The Castel Sismondo is an impressive castle that was built by the former mercenary Sigismondo Malatesta in the 15th century.  The Castle served as both a palace and fortification.  The Florentine builder, Filippo Brunelleschi had himself worked on the construction.  The castle, that has been designed in a middle-aged style is impressive in its traditional form and should demonstrate power and supremacy against the enemy.  Nowadays many exhibitions are housed in the building from antiques to contemporary art.

A further relic from the Roman times is the amphitheatre from the 2nd century BC of which today unfortunately only the walls and doorways are still in tact.

Its not all about the beaches in Rimini

Rimini has a city beach- the Marina Centro with a promenade that the locals like to stroll along in the evenings.  The beaches and the neighbouring baths attract visitors as well as the varied sports activities and fitness facilities that can be best reached in your hired car.  For visitors that do not just want to lie on the beach, the Giardino degli Aromi – “The Aroma Garden” is very inviting in order to while away your time.  Near the Temple Malatestiano, this garden is a little gem with beautiful flowers that give off a magnificent scent.
