A Treasure of the Indian Ocean

For most of Mauritius’s visitors there is no doubt: the island is one of the most beautiful place on Earth, a treasure of the Indian Ocean. The innumerable palm trees that provide shade on the soft, snow white beaches give you the feeling that you have arrived in paradise.
Flic en Flac is one of those places whose fantastic reputation is well deserved. The age old fishing village rests upon a five mile long beach that enchants each newcomer. The fine sand structures, the lightly sloping land that leads on into smooth, turquoise water provides infinite possibilities for holiday snaps as well as a great opportunity to take your car hire for a whizz along the  roads.

Beautiful Sightseeing places

The beach runs along the Tamarin Bay and is protected from waves by the offshore coral reefs making for a unique holiday experience for snorkelers and divers. The reef lies around 300 feet from the coast where you can observe various fish and plant life that settle here. For everyone else, the sheltered lagoon is perfect for bathing and water sports.
In the interior of the city and on the lively beach promenade there are first-rate restaurants with the island’s typically varied cuisine. The fine Mauritian speaks for itself. A mix of Indian, European, native (Creole) and Chinese influences make it international and savoury. The European influence is mainly accredited to the English and French, whereas the Creole variations has its origins in Africa. Whatever your preference, there should be something for every palate.

In the background of the city towers the 1790 foot high Mont du Rempart, that is known as Mauritius’s Matterhorn on account of itself characteristic form. Close by to Flic en Flac in your car hire you will come across one of Mauritius’s typical salt-mines. Other interested destinations are easily attainable by car hire. Not far from Flic en Flac among other things you will come across Tamarin Falls (roughly 30 minutes by car hire), the Crocodile Park (about an hour away), Chamarel Falls (another 45 away) The Pamplemousse Botanical Gardens (an hours drive) and the capital Port Louis (approx. 30 minutes drive away in your car hire).

In the Pamplemousse Botanical Gardens there is a type of palm that is found in few other corners of the earth: the endangered Talipot Palm. It blooms only once during its lifetime, shortly before it dies. It’s definitely worth a visit.

In Mauritius’s capital you will find everything that a big city can provide: restaurants, bars, shops, shopping centres, night clubs, etc. Take a trip to the Blue Penny Museum in which the original and unused blue and red stamps are on display. You will find the museum on the Caudan Waterfront Shopping Centre, in Port Louis Bay.
