Yet another island in the Med, what’s to distinguish it from all the others?
Actually Sardinia proves somewhat different from other, more infamous shall we say, islands around the Mediterranean. Sardinia stands for tradition, lots of those new-fangled ideas from the mainland getting lost somewhere on the way.
The island offers excellent opportunities and facilities for divers, and even instruction for diver wannabes. This is why the best way to discover the surroundings is definitely cheap car hire. Various other water sports can also be partaken of if lying in the sunshine on the golden beaches is a little too horizontal for you. The beautiful coastline is also excellent for walking and hiking.
For those in search of culture, the island gives a glimpse into a way of life that has not really changed for centuries and offers plenty. Just one look at the local fare will convince you of this, no dodgy themed pubs and English breakfasts here, expect lots of locally caught fish. Or how about adding a touch of education to your stay in the form of a language course? Sardinia is populated by a wealth of language schools offering the chance to combine your holiday with a chance to brush up those Italian skills. Don’t have any? No problem schools offer courses starting with those who only know how to say Tortellini, to those who can read La Repubblica.
Happily Sardinia is even easy to get around, as the comprehensive road network will take you and your rental car anywhere you could wish to go, and as you would expect of the Med’s second largest Island getting there is really no problem, you can drive via the car ferry from the mainland should you not wish to fly. Just remember to book early your holiday car hire for high season as this form of transport is very popluar here. Sardinia is the place to be.
