The Myth...


Sorrento is a symbol of the mysticism of the ancient world.  The name Sorrento goes back to the ancient name Surrentum.  Behind this is the myth of the Sirens that once mystified the seafarers with their singing.  Only Odysseus and his companions could escape from the spell of the Sirens song.  From then on the sirens in the cliffs name was changed to “Li Galli”, “Li Galli” is situated near to Positano in the Bay of Sorrento on the south of the peninsula.     

Sorrento is an ideal starting point for day trips with a hire car.  Visit Naples, Pompeii and Herculaneum.  On a hydrofoil, Ischia and Procida are easily reached.
