Apart from the big cities, few European areas are as popular among tourists as Spain’s Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante. One of the best places to spend your holiday here is Torrevieja, which literally translates into Old Tower. Tourists can enjoy 320 days of sunshine per year on average as well as a comfortable mixture of modern tourist facilities and authentic Spanish culture, preserved during all those centuries Torrevieja was on nobody’s radar.
Much of the town life revolves around Paseo Maritimo Street in La Punta district. This shopping boulevard is lined with small boutiques and charming cafes and is a popular hang out spot for locals and tourists. Again, easily reached in your car hire. Following Paseo Maritimo in your car hire, you will get to La Mata district where you can climb the tower which gave the town its name. Torre del Moro was originally designed as a watchtower for spotting pirates, though these days its main function is to provide tourists with a great view and photo opportunities. Torrevieja has a lot of that Mediterranean flair which we seek on our holidays. The main landmark is La Immaculada Concepcion, a classicist church in the town centre. Right opposite you will find the town hall as well as the tourist information where you will be provided with street maps.
Should you be travelling with children you can boost their spirits with a visit to the Parque Molido del Agua, a water park in La Mata. Stroll on to some of the most charming places in town, like the Plaza de la Constitucion, a colourful square with Mediterranean flair. For grown-up entertainment you can hit various nightlife spots. The Paseo Dique de Levante quay is always buzzing, day and night. Other good places to sip a drink are Paseo Vista and Paseo de la Libertad. For some gambling you can check into the old casino, a more classy and expensive affair.
Though there is obviously much entertainment provided in the city you should also explore the surrounding countryside and coastline in your car hire. The shore is sprinkled with small, exclusive marinas hosting posh yachts from all over the world. These small harbours are perfect daytrip destinations far away from mass tourism. A car hire will also take you past La Mata to Torrevieja Nature Park. Two large salt lakes have fostered a unique vegetation of pine forests, eucalyptus trees and reed meadows. If you do not want to walk you can rent bikes and hit the trails.
CarDelMar wishes you a great time with car hire in Torrevieja!
