Its Not All About the Mountains

Switzerland has long been a tourist destination, from those heading to the sanatoria high up in the Alps for the refreshing air, to those wanting a bit of thrill on the snowy slopes. But you would be mistaken for thinking that the country is just mountains. Explore the country further in your rental car.

Take Geneva for example, the city on the lake of the same name. Take a boat tour out on the tranquil waters before sampling some of the cultural highlights Geneva has to offer, including the UN offices there.

Visit Prestigious Places and Historical Sites

Assuming you have by now picked up your hired a car, you can leave Geneva behind and head out to Lausanne for its historical centre, yet again located on the shores of the lake, yet again home to an international organisation, this time the International Olympic Committee.

From Mountains to Meadows

Eventually though you’ll inevitably end up in the mountains, the most famous of these peaks being the infamous Matterhorn. Vast amounts of those making their way to this impressive point intend to climb its craggy slopes, but that is by no means the only way to approach it. The impressive cable car connects the peak with the little town of Zermatt, which itself can be reached easily by road on the E62 from Lausanne.

During the summer months the countryside around Silvaplana is abundant with meadows upon meadows of colour, backed by the picturesque snow-crested mountains and crystal clear wares fed by that glistening white snow. This is also a popular winter skiing area. Easily accessible from Zermatt by road, your rental car is by now starting to pay for itself.

A country of outstanding natural beauty, dense forests, bountiful meadows and high mountain peaks, and a schedule of hiking trails and café culture awaits you on your Swiss holiday.
