Explore all Sides of the Beautiful Tenerife with Your Car Hire!
As far as being stuck on an island in the middle of the ocean goes, taking a trip in your car hire to
Tenerife is admittedly not the most exciting change of scenery imaginable to us Brits. But how about this: within an hour you can take your car hire for a spin and go between lying on a sunny beach to hiking through exotic vegetation to driving with your car hire through the beautiful surroundings.
Drive your car hire trough Canary Islands
At merely 1200 square miles (850 km²) it is very manageable in size to go around with your car hire, though the biggest of all
Canary Islands. Naturally a paradise like this has not remained undiscovered, and tourists pour onto the island, most of them from Europe. If you wish to stay away from the big tourist traps stick to the green hills of the north- excellent to take your car hire for a spin. Most visits to the island start in
Santa Cruz, the capital. Famous for its fabulous carnival in February or March it is the buzzing centre of the island.
Discover the nightlife in Tenerife: Santa Cruz
The nightlife in Tenerife is legendary, especially around the marina park. If you wish for a little more sophistication hire a car and drive to the
Audorium, the
Syndey opera house-like concert venue of the symphonic orchestra. Santa Cruz has long been a major port in the
Atlantic Ocean and was as such much fought over. After a few days in the city head to
Puerto de la Cruz driving your car hire along the TF-5 highway in north-western direction. Though the population is only 30,000 there are a relatively large number of boutiques, restaurants, and entertainment facilities like the family-friendly zoo. This small harbour town is best overlooked from
Mirador Humboldt viewing point. Just 20 km (12 mi) east of
Puerto de la Cruz you can spend a whole day exploring the vineyards of
Ico de los Vinos. The fertility of the area is evident not only in the vine groves, but also in Tenerife’s oldest dracaena tree, sprouted here a thousand years ago. From here it is only few more miles east to Garachico, so jump in your hire car and explore the small authentic fishing village with colourful rooftops and small pebbled streets.
Drive around coastal area in your rental car
The enormous diversity of the country is only properly appreciated on a round trip through various regions, and the necessary mobility is easily acquired: simply by getting a cheap car hire. To get an incredible view over the village and the coastal area follow Calle el Volcano Street to San José de la Vèga Reparo. Before you head inland in your car hire we recommend that you visit the island’s westernmost point from which you can see La Gomera. Punta de Teno is just a 20 minute ride along with your car hire the TF-42 road in western direction, and the shoreline is suitably spectacular.
Do not miss Tenerife’s major attraction
Leaving the coast with your car rental you still have Tenerifes’s major attraction ahead of you: Pico del Teide stands 12,200 ft (3718 m) against the blue sky.
Protected by the Teide National Park, a nature reserve recently named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the volcano has nourished a mind-blowing vegetation spanning from colourful shrub to dense pine forests. You can conquer the volcano by yourselves, but beware that you need special permission to go all the way as access to the summit is restricted. So have fun in Tenerife, hire a car and enjoy the popular areas and explore other sides of the island in your car rental.
