The modern city of Milton Keynes is ideally located near to the M1 motorway, approximately 70km (43 miles) north-west of London.  Modern in the truest meaning of the word:  Milton Keynes was planned in the second half of the 20 century and was designed and aroused particular interest internationally for its futuristic comfort living.  Several famous architects have designed the city and under the working title of “City in the Forest” have managed a complete construction in which inhabitants can live comfortably surrounded by scenery.  Milton Keynes is in itself an attraction.  Those of you that have a few extra days should have a look at the many architectural wonders.  For sport and games, Caldecotte Lake offers all varieties of water-sports or just lie in the sun and relax and can be easily reached by car hire.

Of course, your car hire would be useful to travel into the surrounding countryside.  Those of you that have the urge to, can travel to the pulsating city of London in just a few hours.

A little further south west from Milton Keynes, you can go back to the old times in Woburn Abbey.  The magnificent country estate of the Dukes has nowadays opened its doors to offer fun for the whole of the family.  Hiking, golf and indulgence in the past is all on the programme.  Those of you that would like to, can visit the deer farm or take part in a safari.  Over several thousand hectares are teeming with exotic wildlife in outdoor enclosures.

For those of you that are more interested in Flora as opposed to Fauna should travel a few miles west of Milton Keynes.  From the 17th century there is Stowe- a park that has been decoratively arranged.  Lakes, woods, and streams either artistically arranged or simply left wild create a unique atmosphere.  Many old buildings are there to be admired, temples, statues and mysterious constructions- you will believe that you will not see such building again unless you find yourself in an enchanted forest.

When you think of an enchanted forest, you will certainly think of Sherwood Forest.  No problem:  from Milton Keynes, you can travel easily up the M1 in your car hire a few miles north and you will reach Nottingham- the city of the legendary archer Robin Hood.  Here, you can find out all about the man in the feather cap as well as the fact that Nottingham has preserved its old traditions.  The oldest pub in Britain: Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Inn” from the times of the crusades is a treat for every visitor.  The castle of William the Conqueror that was built in 1068 has everything from the middle ages as well as a contemporary art exhibition.  The passageways found under the city are very interesting but can only be visited with a guide that knows there way round this maze of corridors.

Not too far away from Milton Keynes, approximately 15 minutes in your car hire, you will come across Northampton where you will find some beautiful old buildings.  The Central Museum and the Art Gallery is famous for its huge shoe collection which will be particularly fascinating for a number of you.  One is the main attractions of Northampton can be found just outside the city- the family estate of the Spencers, Althorp House.  After that fatal accident, Diana, the Princess of Wales was buried on a small island that can be found in the middle of the lake.  The tomb as well as the grand house can be visited.  Those of you want to forget about this tragedy or who simply want to enjoy nature, we recommend a trip to the Peak District National Park- hiking, fishing, camping- simply relax and enjoy the outdoors.  From Milton Keynes, simply travel in a northerly direction on the M1 in your car hire and you will be there in no time!  Enjoy!
