Do I have to pay a deposit when collecting the vehicle?

Yes– and you have to present a valid credit card when you are collecting the vehicle. The local car hire company will block a specific amount on your credit card/proceed with pre-authorisation in order to cover the deductible in case of damage to or loss of the vehicle. When a deposit is being paid, car hire companies accept neither cash payments nor debit cards (this also includes most prepaid credit cards).
