Important notice for customers with UK driving licences issued in Great Britain
From 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart of the UK photo card driving licence will not be valid and will no longer be issued by the DVLA. This change applies to Great Britain only and NOT to Northern Ireland. This means that from June 8, both the primary driver and any additional drivers possessing the paper licence will need to provide either a licence summary or a unique code (see the steps below) upon pick up of their hire car in the UK. This requirement also applies if you have a paper licence that was issued before 1998. To obtain your licence summary, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
You will need:
• your driving licence number
• your National Insurance number
• the postcode on your driving licence
To create a licence summary:
• Click on the tab ’Share Your Licence Information’ on the View Driving Licence web page.
• Click on Create a Code.
• Click the link ‘View, print or save your licence information’ and print out a copy of your licence summary.
*Warning: The official date on your licence summary listed in the ‘Date generated’ box must be less than 30 days prior to your rental pick-up date, otherwise it will be invalid.
To create a unique code:
If you do not have access to a printer, then please generate and record a unique code less than 72 hours prior to your pick up. This will allow the car rental provider to view your licence summary online. Please allow extra time for this process.
To obtain a unique code, go to: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
*Warning: Unique codes must be generated less than 72 hours prior to your pick up. Codes older than 72 hours will be invalid. Unique codes are case sensitive so it is important to write in upper and lower case letters where relevant.
